LIGHTING CONTROL CORE / FP01 REV 2.1
FP01 is a common control board for lighting control, mounted on various main boards such as dimmers, relays, PWM dimming and DMX Master. Dual MCUs, an Arduino UNO R4 compatible RA4M1 and a PSoC 4, share communication and real-time control.

01 — PACKAGE
Communication, processing and dimming control are concentrated on FP01. SAIence supplies the FP01 board together with the software that runs on it. The customer builds a main board carrying the power supply, RS485 driver and output circuits; mounting FP01 on it completes a lighting control module.
02 — ARCHITECTURE
The RA4M1 (Arduino UNO R4 compatible) handles communication and command processing; the PSoC 4 handles timing-critical output control. The RS485 driver, power supply and power circuits are on the main board, so the function changes by redesigning only the main board while FP01 stays the same.
RS485 from the higher-level controller or wall switches is received by the driver IC on the main board and connected to FP01 via UART (TX / RX / transmit enable).
MAIN BOARDThe RA4M1 mounted directly on FP01 interprets 12-byte ASCII commands. It manages circuit addresses, groups, scenes and fades, and stores settings in EEPROM.
FP01On instruction from the RA4M1, it performs phase control synchronized to the zero-cross input, relay drive and generation of PWM dimming signals in real time on up to 16 control outputs.
FP01Output stages suited to the application, such as IGBTs, relays or PWM signal conversion circuits, drive lighting fixtures and equipment.
MAIN BOARDDC POWERPower, UART, I²C and control signals all connect to the main board through a single 40-pin FFC cable. Operating power comes from the main board; the MCUs on FP01 handle serial communication only, and the RS485 physical layer is implemented on the main board.
03 — SIGNAL PATHS
FP01 is a double-sided board with USB-C, switches and the OLED on the front, and the Arduino UNO R4 compatible MCU (U1), PSoC 4 (U2), EEPROM (U3) and 40-pin FFC (P3) on the back. The EDA traces and vias are rebuilt in 3D, and six signal paths are shown in sequence. I²C addresses and the register map are on the I²C communication specification page, and the 40-pin pin map is on the FFC connector specification page.

EDA DATAThe 3D traces are the actual routes extracted from the trace and via coordinates of the EDA board data (FP01 Rev2.1); line widths are enlarged for visibility. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, right-drag to pan.
04 — APPLICATIONS
With the same FP01 and software, the control method changes with the main board it is combined with. All dimming levels use a common scale of 0–1000 (0.1% steps).
The PSoC 4 phase-controls power devices such as IGBTs on the main board in sync with the supply zero cross.
IGBTX4 / DIMX4Lighting and equipment ON/OFF is controlled simply, with the same command set, groups and scenes as dimming.
RELAYX8 / RRX8The PSoC 4 generates PWM dimming signals; the signal circuit on the main board converts them into dimming signals compatible with the lighting fixtures.
PWMX4Instructs an Arduino UNO DMX Master main board over I²C and controls the DMX channel (1–512) assigned to each circuit.
DMX MAIN BOARD05 — FIRMWARE
The Arduino sketch works with simple ASCII commands: 1 mode character + 3-digit address + 4-character instruction + 4-digit argument. They can be sent directly from an HA controller or terminal software on a PC. Try assembling one below.
Maximum number of circuits (local addresses) per module
Number of groups each circuit can join
Scene table per circuit (a no-change value is allowed)
Dimming level resolution (0–1000), with MIN/MAX scaling
ALSOFade time, on-delay, power-on level, UP/DOWN steps (two sets: for wall switches and for HA), circuit descriptions, identification blink and more are stored in EEPROM. The module address and type can be set on site with the 1.5-inch OLED (SPI) and two user buttons.
06 — MAIN BOARDS
The FP01 firmware identifies the main board by its module type ID and switches the number of local addresses and the control method. Main boards are built by the customer. SAIence provides reference boards verified in combination with FP01 as evaluation test boards.
